Photography

Most of my photos have stories behind them, and to me, many of them actually do paint a thousand words. This page is to share these images with you that have drawn me in and inspired me as a photographer.

fishermansilhouette

I love to fish–but I also love to take photos.  As a result I often find myself in a quandry trying to put my pole down quickly enough to capture the second and to also keep my camera out of harm’s way!

I probably miss a lot of fish because I just can’t resist these beautiful shots.  It’s fantastic to see them with my eyes, but there’s just something that possesses me to capture it for longer than a blink and a memory.

And then there are just these awesome shots where the natural lighting is perfect for the lens and for that split second everything freezes, making time stand still for the shutter.

Little Blue Heron

And there is the wildlife that sometimes sit there and just BEG you to take their picture!  I can almost hear them asking.  It’s crazy!

March Gator

And the wildlife is really wild!

And then there’s the chance to get close enough to count teeth!

And sometimes, things at home just draw me in with their simple elegance, and the allure of taking a macro look–like this Confederate Jasmine bloom on a vine that wraps around my porch posts.

horsebanner1.jpg

I like making banners, like this field of horses and yellow flowers my LilSis and I stumbled upon while enjoying a girls’ weekend. Those times are too few and far between and we savor every moment.

I try to have one of my cameras with me whether I am on the road or on the water, because I never know what might capture my attention or pose a certain photographic challenge. Like this unsuspecting creature , for example . . .

I love the way my D50 captured details in the spider’s web. See it?

Isn’t that just the coolest spider?  I almost ran into it in the backyard, hanging between the swing and the honeysuckle gate.

And then there are just photos of unusual things that reflect my idiosyncratic nature.

duckhead.jpg

One of these days I might explain that duck head stuck in my flower pot!

cajunhibiscus.jpg

This is a gorgeous hybrid called Cajun Hibiscus and was given to me by the grandson of the man who developed these beauties.  I managed to save it from the saltwater intrusion it suffered during Hurricane Ike in 2008.  And one of my readers has it in her newly-decorated home in an 11×17.  I’m thrilled!
